This ride began in 2013 as a ride for those who want to train up for long rides. We start with a relatively short distance in April (30 miles) and work up to long rides in August and September (70-80 miles). A number of the group likes to ride the Tour de Whatcom or Chuckanut Classic century rides together in July and August.

Susan will be leading  The Long Slog Sunday, July 23, 2017 and we'll go 67 miles via Ferndale-Birch Bay- Lummi Nation. It will be hot/sunny (75 degrees). Please prepare enough water, use sunscreen and bring cash if you want something at the coffee shop in Birch Bay.

HERE IS THE ROUTE MAP and CUE SHEET - PRINT IT IF YOU WANT IT!

The Long Slog is a "No Drop Ride". This means everybody stops and waits for all of group at pre-designated spots. This is not a ride for training to race. As the rides get harder, the group waits longer at stops. A good ride to learn how to support others on long haul rides. Show encouragement, share food, learn repair, discuss riding and slow down if it's better for the group as a whole.  Ride often has one long coffee break.

Average speed is 12-15 mph, and often there are faster riders who like to go on ahead. But no worries, there will always be a rider or ride leader to hang back with the 12 mph riders. And everyone stops at various catch-up spots along the way to let the slower riders get back in the group.

Different ride leader each week. Ride leader duties will trade off between Susan Willhoft and Katie Collins. Route maps will be posted each week on the event calendar. Print out a map ahead of time for yourself if you are worried about getting separated from the group (or if you think you'll want to turn around and head back to town earlier than the others).

Starting meetup spot: Boulevard Park in Fairhaven, meet at the bike racks behind Woods Coffee.  Start time 9:00 am June through September
