FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mount Baker Bicycle Club announces events in 2016
Chuckanut Classic and more!

Bellingham, WA – March 23, 2016 — The Mount Baker Bicycle Club (MBBC) is pleased to announce its plans for cycling events in 2016. Residents and visitors to Bellingham and Whatcom County are invited to join the MBBC for any and all of this year’s bicycle riding functions.

The MBBC’s annual signature ride, previously known as the Chuckanut Century, is renamed the Chuckanut Classic, and will be held on Sunday, August 28. According to MBBC president Hilary Higgins, “the organizers of our annual ride want people to realize that it is open to riders of all levels, from short-distance beginners and casual riders, all the way to hard-core long-distance riders.” The Chuckanut Classic includes scenic routes of 25, 50, and 62 miles, plus the longer 100 mile (century) route and even a 124 mile (200km, double metric century) distance. And begining in 2016, a brand new Family-Friendly guided 10 mile ride will be offered. This new easy ride is aimed at younger kids and parents, and includes stops in several local parks with food, entertainment, and even a bicycle rodeo by Chris Mellick of Ride, Run and Dig (RRAD).

For more details and to register, see chuckanutclassic.org.

The MBBC offers individual and family memberships, and new in 2016, a corporate membership campaign is being launched. In an effort to promote cycling in beautiful Whatcom County, local companies are encouraged to offer their employees the benefit of a healthier lifestyle via participation in the MBBC. A corporate membership enrolls all employees in the MBBC (companies of up to 10 employees may join for $125; companies with more than 10 may enroll everyone for $250).

Benefits of MBBC membership are listed at mtbakerbikeclub.org/join-the-club.

The MBBC is partnering with Whatcom Smart Trips to bring back the Summer Rides Series in 2016. Summer Rides are easy social outings by bike, on flat terrain and about 7 miles long. Each ride has a different theme and some fun stops along the way. The rides are guided by certified ride leaders to keep things safe and to keep the group together. Rides will occur on the first Sunday of the month, May through September, starting at 1pm. Details at mtbakerbikeclub.org/summer.

And finally, spring is here and MBBC’s full calendar of weekly rides will begin in April. Join us for a group riding skills-development no-drop ride on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday speed workout rides, Thursday rides near Everson/Nooksack, and a Sunday morning slower paced long-distance ride. Special rides are held throughout the year and include hill-climbing, trips to the San Juans, and to eastern Washington. mtbakerbikeclub.org/weekly-rides
