MBBC has lost a great friend, rider, and advocate

Jack Roger Laird passed away in Thermal, California on December 8, 2017 when he was struck by a car while bicycling. Report from a southern California bicycle group is here.

He was born in Bellingham, WA on Sept 24, 1949 and lived in Bellingham, WA and Thousand Palms, CA.

Jack graduated from Bellingham High School in 1967. He was in the US Navy Seabees from 1968-1970. Jack was a prominent local contractor, and owner of Jack Laird Construction and co-owner of Com-Steel, LLC before retiring in 2000.

Jack was a member and elder at Sterling Drive Church almost all of his life and volunteered as a preacher for many years. He enjoyed mission trips to Ecuador and was always quick to help any friend with construction help or any other need.

He loved classic cars and loved his 1964 El Camino and 1968 GTO and would take them on frequent drives with D’Linda, his beloved wife of 46 years. He also trained and mentored dozens of young construction workers and taught them to “not be a putz.”

He loved God, his family, building things, and being active. He enjoyed bicycling with the MBBC, Coachella Valley Desert Dogs and Palm Desert Bicycle Club. He competed in the Ski-to-Sea road bike leg for many years and was a coach and member of innumerable baseball, softball, and soccer teams.
